Citydev.brussels acquired the 2,805 m² plot in September 2015 with a view to building subsidized housing and creating a beautiful green space within the block. To this end, citydev.brussels launched a works promotion contract in November 2015. After analyzing the bids, the institution awarded the contract to Eiffage Real Estate.
The project involves the construction of a residential building with a total of 53 subsidized apartments. The basement will accommodate 55 parking spaces and 158 bicycle parking spaces, as well as technical rooms and cellars.
This is a site with a very specific configuration, located in a dense and complex environment, at the confluence of major public and private transport routes, both above and below ground. The layout of the buildings is designed to open up the housing complex and accentuate its relationship with the public space.
A work of art on the theme of "cycling and recycling" is integrated into the building, creating a distinctive landmark on Boulevard Emile Bockstael that will identify the Point Vélo and, by extension, the entire project.
The two buildings are articulated around a pedestrian esplanade, a convivial meeting place linked to the public space.
